Bright Limewash Sitting Room

A shaded ground floor that never quite woke up — until pale limewash started bouncing what light there was.

Borrowing light from the walls

North‑facing and overlooked, this sitting room ate daylight: conventional white paint went chalky and cold by mid‑afternoon. The answer was a pale limewash with a whisper of warmth, whose cloudy surface scatters light instead of flattening it.

Three washed coats over mineral primer, cut around tall joinery that we repainted to match. The owners say the room now feels a full shade brighter without a single new window — and with two small children, the zero‑VOC paint meant nobody had to move out.
